15 Sleeps to go...

Well this week has involved more shopping, exchanging, thinking, cleaning, chatting, dreaming, panicking, and much more.

I'm currently in Chester, seeing friends. I travelled up yesterday, but was a little worried about driving after the little accident I had last week, but it was all good. Today I went to Christ Church and saw old friends and made some new ones. I love bring and share at church. Then I popped to the pub to see a couple more friends. It's so good catching up with friends. It has made me feel a bit sad that I'm leaving some wonderful people behind in England, and I won't be seeing them for at least a year. But good things will happen as the next year unfolds.

So the emotional bit over and done with...this week entails:
  • Seeing Ami and Dawn tomorrow for a wee bit of shopping, catching up and dinner tomorrow.
  • Seeing Cay and Mia on Tuesday.
  • More jabs and haircut on Thursday.
  • Saturday is the night of all nights where I plan to see more friends to catch up with before I fly away.
  • Sunday - the last day at church! Scary!
Anyway, have a good week, and remember 15 sleeps till I'll be flying out to South Korea to start a fantastic job in a fantastic place.

22 Sleeps to go...

Welcome to your Sunday night reading!

I've not really got much to say I'm afraid...I think I told you all what has happened this week, so apart from a few ups and downs on the personal side of life, life in Korea is going quite smoothly at the moment! I seem to be finding friends already, and can't wait to meet them and have a look around Korea...ooooh! I still have a few things to do like learn a bit of Korean, sort out a few lesson plans and pack everything!

This week I'm doing some more TeFL work (I've been a bit slow in doing it this week, but plan to get back on it!).

Anyhoo...enjoy your Sunday night, and I'll check in next week with some exciting news.

26 Sleeps to go...

Ok, so I know that I said I was only going to update this once a week, and it's only been a few days since I wrote last, but I just thought I'd tell you I'd booked and paid for my flights!!!! That means I'm leaving the UK at 9:40am on 12th October 2009. What an epic journey, I'll be leaving my house at about 5am on that Monday to get there with pleanty of time to spare, eat some brekkie and say goodbye to all my family.

In the last few days I pretty much shopped. Normally I love the thought of shopping, but with no income I've been dreading it all a little bit. BUT, I won't lie...although painful at times (trying to only buy tops that are acceptable in Korea, finding jeans and trousers, and having to restrict myself to only a few pairs of shoes) I have enjoyed my last 7 days of shopping. I have managed to buy walking stuff, a flute and some music, Birkenstocks, toiletries, and a few other bits and pieces, in full knowledge that all this needs to last me at least 1 year. And that kind of excites me too...not being somewhere where I can go shopping all the time will do me a lot of good.

Now it's all becoming real I'm starting to think of a few things that I am looking forward to.
  • Cherry Blossoms in the spring time.
  • Travelling around.
  • Learning new things.
  • Meeting loads of new people.
  • Decorating my new little house.
So, on that note, I'll leave you all to it...not that I think anyone's really reading :p

Love, Kat xx

28 Sleeps to go...

So, a friend of mine visited on Friday. We went shopping for the day, and I forgot about my VISA for about 2 hours...the one thing that has consumed my mind constantly for the past week. Every morning I wake up and wonder if today will be the day that the big red Royal Mail van will pull into my little Close, awkwardly turn around, stop right outside my drive, get out, walk up to my door and press the bell. Every day for a whole week I have been wondering this. I even contemplated making us stay in until 1 o'clock to make sure it wasn't going to come. But a girl can't live that way...just waiting all the time.

Driving back from our day out shopping and a brisk walk around the lake, I open the door, look down, and low and behold there sits the little red and white sheet of paper I knew would be there. I didn't even read it before I turn around to Tim, who hasn't even stepped in the door yet, give out a little scream and hug him!

The next 2 hours are painful. I have to wait until the traffic dies down enough to venture out of the house. I don't want to get stuck at the hell that is rush hour traffic at the Tesco's double round-a-bout. I sit down, have a few cups of tea (they always calm a situation down - how British I've become!) and then make my way to the Post Office office. In my haste I leave the house without directions...silly me! So I ring dad at the library, and then finally I get the envelope I've been waiting for...

Another page used in my passport :D :D :D

Some more information you might like to know:

While i am working in Korea I plan to go to the following places:
  • Taiwan
  • Japan
  • Hong Kong
  • China
  • Malaysia
  • Indonesia
You may think I won't find the time with only two weeks off a year, but I will find a way! I just can't let all those amazing places that are so close to me go to waste! Think about it! And that also means that by 2014 (when I need to get a new passport) I'll have filled all the pages in my passport!!! A dream I have had since I was a wee little girl in South Africa. So far in my current passport I have Visa's for South Africa, Indonesia and now South Korea. I'm starting to get very excited.

Other things you might like to know:
  • It appears that the Korean culture of drinking is very popular. It is rude and unkind not to accept a drink when offered, and you most certainly must go out for drinks with your coworkers! This for me may prove to be my downfall as I am very much a lightweight, and the mere whiff of a drink sends me on a two day hangover...so watch this space.
  • I have bought a couple of bags today, but they aren't quite what I'm looking for. I have found an amazing Animal 120L Wheeled Holdall, but is very expensive, and some people think too easily broken into.
  • I have toiletries, books, bedding, stationary, and most importantly stickers ready for packing.
  • There is currently a box of clothes that are being considered for packing, but need to check necklines and weight before deciding.
  • I've emailed a nice girl called Katie about my flights so I should find out about that this week :D Another impatient week I feel!
  • Shopping, shopping, and more shopping this week, while I buy walking boots, Birkenstocks, flights socks, t-shirts, and some other bits and pieces.
  • My emotions seem to be running on a high...everything is in the extreme. I am extremely nervous, excited, scared, expectant, etc...
Other things that have happened this week:
  • I had my second set of injections, which turned out to be much more painful than the 1st set, and has taken it's toll in slight flu like symptoms, but will be worth it!
  • I think I have sorted out the bones of my 1st weeks lesson plans...phew!
Right, this is very long, and rambly, so if you made it this far...WELL DONE!!!

Love to you all,
Kat xxx

35 Days To Go...

So, I have 35 days to go until my adventure of teaching in South Korea begins, and as promised I've set up a blog for all you lovely people to keep track of all the things I might get up to....

So, 5 weeks to go. What am I doing?
  • Looking for luggage.
  • Making lists of things I need to take with me.
  • Selling DVDs, books, CDs, my bike, etc.
  • Waiting impatiently for my VISA to arrive, so I can book my plane tickets.
  • Trying to arrange a leaving do type thing for the weekend before I leave.
  • Attempting to learn some Korean. So far I've been listening and watching the symbols and hoping they're going to sink in a little bit before I get to Kore, so I can keep learning when I get there.
So, all very exciting things you'll agree. I've not really got much else to say at the moment, but I'll try and keep this updated for you to peruse at your leisure!
